Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Office of International Students & Scholars Program Coordinator plans programs, events, and services to assist international students, scholars, and faculty adjust to UNCW and U.S. culture and life. Through core programs, such as International Student Orientation, the Friendship Family Program, the Student Mentor Program, the Intercultural Festival, the Global Student Ambassador Program, Global Café, International Student Thanksgiving Dinner, End of Semester Reception, and out-of-state trips and local events and excursions, the Office of International Students & Scholars Program Coordinator serves as a resource for international students, scholars, and faculty to ensure their well-being and success while at UNCW.
This position also develops and manages OISS programs and events and corresponding communication plans to promote OISS programming to students, campus, and the Wilmington community. Position is responsible for event management from idea conception, preparations, budget management, and day-of logistics. Position will plan events that comes with being fiscally responsible for managing a purchase and travel card. This position oversees the OISS website, social media accounts and the campus partner newsletter.
The Office of International Students & Scholars Program Coordinator also assists with other OISS responsibilities as needed, including participating in cross-trainings to ensure coverage of all areas within the OISS unit. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
- Event planning experience.
- Time spent living / studying overseas.
- Knowledge of a foreign language.
- Experience driving a 15-passenger van.
- Strong organization skills, adept at juggling many tasks, detail-orientated with a track record of following policies and procedures and an ability to lead student programs with a high level of professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills particularly with non-native English speakers.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with undergraduate and graduate students, administrators, faculty, staff, and off-campus community members.
- Detail-oriented, organized and able to work independently.
- Proficiency in social media platforms, especially Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and experience managing social media accounts.
- Excellent command of the English language, written and oral.
- Demonstrate exceptional professionalism in representing UNCW on-campus and in the community.
- Strong interest in global topics and foreign cultures.
- Experience and comfort with public speaking and giving presentations.
- Proficiency in web and publication design.
- Experience thriving in a fast-paced work environment.
