Position Summary

UNC Genetics Department laboratory is seeking an Administrative Support Specialist with an interest in science, genetics, aging or genome analysis. This position will support and assist in administrative and project coordination activities. The position requires exceptional attention to detail, the discipline to complete tasks, and the ability to work with all levels of staff and faculty. This could be someone with a BA or BS undergraduate degree in a discipline such as Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Psychology.

Flexible work arrangements, including virtual / hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. As such, this position's work location is designated as virtual. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Work experience within an administrative support role or similar work experience

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Practical experience with research projects or with accomplishing team-oriented goals. Work experience of any sort is helpful.

Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

Outstanding customer service skills.

Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Meticulous organization and attention to detail (e.g. document and information management skills)
