The Graduate School supports graduate students in almost every program across the Carolina campus and serves students from admission through graduation. We provide financial support (e.g. interdisciplinary fellowships, tuition support, travel awards, and research supplements), career and professional development (e.g. in pedagogy, leadership, communication, grant writing), diversity and student success programming, academic program support, and advocacy to students, faculty, staff, and graduate programs. The Graduate School also provides individual students with services tailored to meet their needs.

Position Summary

This is a repost. Previous applicants are still being considered and need not reapply. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

This position performs a wide range of students services functions, including providing student services support for prospective graduate students and University offices by reviewing and processing admissions applications, supporting materials and admissions recommendations for assigned application centers, verifying official transcripts and accreditation credentials

for incoming graduate students, providing student services support to the degree progression and completion of enrolled students from assigned academic programs, evaluating candidates for graduation, including adherence to graduate program requirements, Graduate School graduation policies, and University timelines, providing student services support through

performing assigned lead responsibilities, and adhering to University FERPA policies and Graduate School confidentiality policies.

This position serves as the first-line of contact providing information and student services support for all Graduate School administered programs, being responsible for student services from the application process through graduation - the life cycle of the graduate student experience at UNC-Chapel Hill (from admission through approving the student for degree completion).

This position manages well over 2,000 admissions applications per annual admissions cycle and supports more than 1,200 enrolled students. Therefore, the individual in this position deals with a variety of topics and issues that affect students, staff, and faculty, and must have a thorough understanding of Graduate School and university policies, as well as the ability to independently apply these policies to different situations in different contexts, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to analyze and problem solve many different types of situations.

This position also works closely with central units across campus, including the Registrar's Office, Information Technology Services, the Cashier's Office, and others, and engages closely to inform campuswide projects, including the multiyear degree audit and program milestones project. This role provides expertise and guidance to these projects and to stakeholders in units on campus and beyond.

This position is responsible for managing and monitoring inquiries from prospective and enrolled students regarding NC residency for tuition purposes. This involves acting as The Graduate School's liaison for NC residency for tuition purposes with the Office of the University Registrar, the University Cashier, ITS, and academic programs and other central offices. This lead responsibility also involves identifying and resolving straightforward issues regarding residency for tuition purposes. This position frequently provides feedback and oversight for internal and campus policies and processes, and assists in establishing Graduate School procedures, as well as developing strategy for best practice for campus partners, including academic programs, departments and campus partners.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

The following essential knowledge, skills and abilities are required for success in this position : A demonstrated record of strong organizational and customer service skills, excellent communication skills (both oral and written), as well as the demonstrated ability to manage multiple and changing priorities and to meet competing deadlines. This role requires the ability to use multiple technology systems and to learn systems quickly, as well as strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Experience in an academic environment (working with faculty, staff and students) is strongly preferred. Applicants who have a working knowledge of ConnectCarolina, ImageNow, and Admissions systems are highly desired. The department also prefers applicants with knowledge of UNC's student policies and procedures.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
