Post Doc Research Fellow
Salary/Position Classification
- $48,000 , dependent on experience contract, Exempt
- 40 hours per week

Purpose of Position
The Department of Physics and Astrophysics is seeking a 12-month, post-doctoral research fellow to conduct research in experimental quantum optics. The initial appointment will be for one year and is full-time and benefitted, with potential for renewal for a second year, pending annual review of performance and continued availability of funding.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, assemble and perform quantum optics experiments with heralded single photons.
- Characterize and maintain lasers, optical detectors and other laboratory equipment.
- Implement models of photon propagation and non-linear optics using python.
- Analyze results with PI and draft manuscripts for publication and proposals for external grants.
- Present research at conferences.
- Mentor junior team members.
Required Competencies
- Familiarity with optical benchtop experiments, laser systems, and optical detectors
- Excellent technical writing skills
- Desire to solidify a research career in optics and establish and independent research
direction
Minimum Requirements
- Ph.D. in experimental quantum optics or related field
- Demonstrated evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Have research experience in at least one of the following topics (1) photon pair sources,
(2) quantum key distribution, (3) non-linear frequency conversion, (4) fiber optics, (5)
interferometry, (6) free-space optical communication - Research background in optics
- Programming experience (python preferred, Fortran, LabView)
- Experience with hardware control, hardware programming
- Experience with CAD (Inventor, Solidworks), fabrication
