Simulation Technician
Salary/Position Classification

Purpose of Position
The Simulation Technician, will assist with providing advanced technical support for all simulation operations, including in the center and mobile simulation units. The technician will work collaboratively with Simulation Center faculty, staff, and mobile simulation staff in using simulation to support teaching and learning. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for assisting with the preparation, maintenance, and repair of full-body patient simulator and associated equipment, (software and hardware), audio-visual (AV), and technical equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with all aspects of programming, maintenance, repair, and operation of computerized human patient simulators in the NE Campus Simulation Center and mobile simulation units.
- Assist with troubleshooting simulator software and hardware.
- Assist with maintaining records of human patient simulators and associated equipment including, utilization, maintenance, and system upgrades.
- Assist with providing technical support for faculty and staff for specific application systems for simulated experiences.
- Assist with troubleshooting simulation equipment malfunctions as needed and/or directed by the manufacturer, ensuring proper usage and operation by authorized personnel.
- Gain and maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment and operating manuals.
- Attend specific vendor training to gain a thorough knowledge of the technology-enabled workflows and the application features and functions.
- Assist with operating medical simulation technologies checklists for all simulators.
- Assist with and maintain technical checklists for all simulators.
- Assist with ensuring preventative maintenance is completed on all simulators and is properly documented.
- Assist with ordering of equipment and supplies to keep the simulators operational.
- Assist with conducting ongoing maintenance of simulation equipment and other technology.
- Assist the other Simulation Technicians and the Program Administrator to ensure service contracts and warranties for simulation equipment is current.
- Assist the other Simulation Technicians and the Inventory Coordinator with major and minor equipment inventory related to the computerized patient simulators in the Simulation Center and mobile units.
- Collaborate with the other Simulation Technicians, the Simulation Education Coordinator, & SIM-ND Coordinator on SIM-ND simulator needs.
Assist with managing and maintaining the AV systems and server room equipment in the NE Campus Simulation Center and mobile units.
- Assist with testing and problem-solving during implementations, simulation, and support phases.
- Assist with equipment and software to keep current with expanding technology.
- Assist as needed, as a point of contact between hardware and software companies.
- Assist with ensuring that simulator software is programmed to scenario specifications.
- Assist with the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the Simulation Center AV system, server room equipment, and components.
- Assist with ensuring continuous system functionality, 24/7 video surveillance in specified areas, and readiness for high-stakes exams.
- Assist as needed, with major and minor equipment inventory related to the AV systems in the center and mobile units.
- Assist with operating and maintaining advanced audio-video recording systems consisting of multiple cameras, microphones, audio/video mixers, amplifiers, etc.
- Assist as needed, collaborating with the SIM-ND Coordinator on SIM-ND AV needs.
Assist with 3D printer-related projects to support the operations of the Simulation Center.
- Assist with CAD software and 3D printing to support Simulation Center operations.
- Assist with managing the inventory of all 3D printing materials.
Assist with providing technical support for the NE Campus Simulation Center.
- Assist the other Simulation Technicians with computer technical support for all Simulation Center-owned equipment.
- Assist with video recording and editing.
- Assist with testing and troubleshooting of Simulation Center-owned equipment.
- Assist with performing updates to keep current with expanding technology.
- Assist with planning for future technology and ensure the Simulation Center is utilizing current and innovative technology.
- Assist the other Simulation Technicians and Inventory Coordinator with major and minor equipment inventory related to the technical equipment in the Simulation Center and mobile units.
Maintain professional competencies.
- May assist in the development of enhancements to simulation technologies.
- As able, provide input into curriculum development concerning technological support.
- Assist center staff in scenario planning, programming, equipment setup, and execution as needed by faculty and staff.
- As able, assist with resource needs, technological advancements, improved services, and strategic planning, including the preparation of relevant business plans.
- Keep up to date on new simulation technology by reviewing current literature and relevant educational research and attending training sessions and regional conferences.
- Collaborate on simulation-orientated research projects.
- Participate in the discovery and dissemination of knowledge in the field of simulation technology by presenting and teaching at meetings, conferences, or seminars appropriate to the field when appropriate.
Required Competencies
- Working knowledge of and proficiency in computers, application software, operating systems, and information technology (IT) equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Detail-orientated and highly organized.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Simulation Center users, including but not limited to, staff, learners, vendors, and external healthcare agencies.
- Ability to set priorities and work independently utilizing critical thinking skills.
- Working knowledge of and proficiency in computers, application software, operating systems, and information technology (IT) equipment.
- Must be able to travel locally, statewide, or nationally.
- Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate degree in a related field and 1 year of related experience.
- Experience with the tools used in making minor electronic and/or mechanical repairs, e.g., soldering gun/iron, wire strippers, multi-meters, etc.
- Experience with or knowledge of audio/video recording hardware and software
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in simulation learning environments for health professionals.
- Experience with simulation systems, including patient simulator technology and software, such as LLEAP, Maestro, UNI, LearningSpace, Axis, Device Manager, etc.
- Work experience or education in the healthcare field, information technology, or basic sciences
- Experience with Windows-based operating systems
- Knowledge of computer networking such as TCP/IPv4
