Department Summary

The University of North Texas College of Health Professions (CHP) is inviting applications for an Adjunct Instructor - in the Department of Physical Therapy. This individual will serve as a College of Health Professions adjunct instructor who will enhance the UNTHSC vision and mission, while making meaningful contributions to the profession of physical therapy and the community.

Position Overview

This adjunct position plays a crucial role in preparing future physical therapists to meet the specialized needs of pediatric populations. This position involves teaching and mentoring students in areas of pediatric physical therapy, with a focus on developing the knowledge, skills, and clinical reasoning necessary to support the growth, development, and well-being of children from infancy through adolescence. The adjunct faculty member will engage students through lectures, lab activities, case studies, and clinical simulations, emphasizing evidence-based practice, family-centered care, and the unique ethical and developmental considerations in pediatric settings.

The role requires collaboration with other faculty members and clinical partners to align curriculum and clinical experiences with current standards and competencies in pediatric physical therapy. In addition to teaching, the adjunct faculty member will assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment. The ideal candidate is an experienced pediatric physical therapist with a deep commitment to advancing student understanding of pediatric assessment, intervention strategies, and the interdisciplinary care required for this specialized field. This position is instrumental in shaping competent, compassionate professionals prepared to make a meaningful impact in pediatric healthcare.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) required from an accredited physical therapy program. Certification in teaching expertise area of practice.
  • Licensed physical therapist in Texas (or the eligibility to obtain a Texas license) with a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards for teaching in assigned duties.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all individuals and stakeholders within and outside the University.
  • Active participation in professional activities at the local, state, and/or national level

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • An adjunct faculty member should possess a strong foundation in their academic discipline, with deep subject matter expertise and a keen awareness of current trends, theories, and practices. They must be knowledgeable about instructional techniques, including effective pedagogical strategies such as active learning, assessment methods, and best practices for both in-person and online teaching. Additionally, familiarity with educational technology is essential, as adjuncts should be comfortable using learning management system, Canvas to enhance student engagement.

  • Key skills for an adjunct faculty member include strong verbal and written communication, enabling them to explain complex information clearly and engagingly. They should demonstrate effective classroom management, fostering a positive and organized environment that encourages student participation. Strong interpersonal skills are also critical, as adjuncts need to build rapport with students, colleagues, and administrators, contributing to a collaborative academic community.

  • Beyond knowledge and skills, successful adjunct faculty members exhibit abilities that include critical thinking and problem-solving, enabling them to address challenges in teaching or student comprehension with creative solutions. They are adept at engaging and motivating students, sparking curiosity and a passion for learning. They can accurately assess student progress, providing constructive feedback that supports growth. A strong sense of professionalism and ethical standards is fundamental, as adjuncts must uphold academic policies, respect student privacy, and maintain integrity in their work.
