COMPENSATION RANGE: 1,080.00 - 1,300.00 per credit hour

This pool expires 05/31/2025. Applicants wishing to remain in this pool past 05/31/2025, must reapply at that time.

Position Summary

Temporary, part-time adjunct faculty in Geography, GIS, & Sustainability. Online and face-to-face teaching opportunities may be available for a large variety of courses.

Minimum Qualifications

The Department of Geography, GIS, & Sustainability requires an academic degree in the discipline (Geography, Geospatial Technologies, Planning, Ecology, Environmental Studies, or Sustainability). Candidates for Lecturer position will have at least 18 graduate credits in appropriate discipline and must hold an M.A., M.S., or J.D.

GIS Courses

The Department Has Established a Minimum Threshold For Tested Experience When Determining Faculty Qualifications To Teach GIS Courses By Means Other Than Earned Credential. To Be Considered Qualified Through Tested Experience To Teach a GIS Course, An Applicant Must Meet At Least Two Of The Following Criteria:

  • A graduate degree in computer science, general science, planning, or a spatial discipline related to any of the specialty groups defined by the American Association of Geographers (www.aag.org);
  • A record of research, creative activity, scholarship or professional achievement relevant to geographic theories, approaches, and methods.
  • Relevant certifications, licensure, or additional credentials relevant to GIS.

Environmental and Sustainability Studies (ENST) Courses

The Department Has Established a Minimum Threshold For Tested Experience When Determining Faculty Qualifications By Means Other Than Earned Credential. To Be Considered Through Tested Experience, An Applicant Must Meet Two Of The Following Criteria:

  • Substantial graduate level coursework or methodological training related to Environmental Studies and Sustainability including natural sciences, resource economics, geography & GIS, environmental sociology, earth sciences, biology, and other related disciplines;
  • A record of research, creative activity, scholarship or professional achievement appropriate the field of instruction;
  • Relevant certification, licensures, or other professional credentials relevant to the field of instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the one in which the candidate wishes to teach. Past record of successful college-level teaching experience in the discipline of employment. For online teaching, one or more semesters' worth of online teaching experience. Experience using the Canvas platform and with courses that have received Quality Matters approval is advantageous.

Employees at UNC receive sick leave, and other leave options may be available based on position. Full-time employees are eligible to receive tuition waiver benefits, as well as dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check, educational check, and authorization to work in the United States is required after a conditional offer of employment has been made. The successful candidate must submit original transcripts within one (1) month of hire.

This position is contingent on funding from the Colorado State Legislature, approval by the Board of Trustees, and subject to the policies and regulations of the University of Northern Colorado.

Clery Act

In compliance with the Clery Act, the most recent University of Northern Colorado Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report is available online. A paper copy can be requested at the UNC Police Department. This report contains crime statistics and policy statements related to safety, conduct processes and Title IX investigations.
