Position Summary

Position Overview
The Lecturer for Christian Ministries is a 3/4 time position, responsible to provide excellence in teaching and to fulfill the mission and strategic goals of the Department of Christian Ministries.

What will I do in this position?
Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Teach assigned credits of Traditional Undergraduate courses annually within the Christian Ministries department depending on departmental need and individual expertise.
  • Hold regularly scheduled office hours as well as well as advise students in the Department of Christian Ministries as assigned.
  • Participate in scheduled department meetings.
  • Because our community is a significant part of our mission and the development of our students, all employees act as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ by actively partnering with the University to disciple students in growing intellectually and spiritually, and with Northwestern Media to lead people to Christ and nurture believers to mature in their faith.
Secondary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Participating in university faculty meetings, convocations, and commencements as able
  • Assist with miscellaneous department duties as requested

What will it take to succeed in this position?
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Doctorate with a Ministry or Christian education emphasis, required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years direct experience within different sized churches and/or non-profit ministries, preferred.
  • Background in Christian education, preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience at the college level, preferred.
  • Continually nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; serve as a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people within and outside of Northwestern; and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, doctrinal statement, and Declaration of Christian Community.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, courteous and tactful manner
  • Ability to integrate the Christian worldview into classroom instruction
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, working some evenings and/or weekends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate computer proficiency
  • Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment
Work Environment:
The work environment involves working for a suburban, Christian university, working alongside those with a demonstrated commitment and personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission and values of the University and an agreement to abide by all University policies.

Compensation Range: $30,000 – $40,000
