Position Overview
The Transfer Counselor is a full-time position, responsible to increase the number of students transferring to University of Northwestern – St. Paul by identifying and working closely with qualified prospective students and the people who influence their decision-making process.
What will I do in this position?
Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Meet and exceed enrollment goals for transfer students.
- Meet with prospective students and maintain contact via personal, telephone, and electronic communication.
- Work with department staff to provide prompt, accurate evaluations of prospective transfer student transcripts during the application process. Assist in the matriculation process of transfer students by working closely with the Registrar’s Office personnel.
- Schedule regular recruitment visits to community colleges and other one- and two-year institutions. Identify and nurture relationships with key feeder institutions, groups, and individual students from those schools.
- Be creative in establishing and strengthening communication between University of Northwestern – St. Paul and feeder institutions.
- Maintain and regularly update transfer pathways between other colleges and Northwestern, in coordination with other admissions stakeholders.
- Provide regular reports, updates, and any other pertinent information to the admissions management as requested.

Secondary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist with special campus events involving prospective students and their families.
- Attend various events such as College Fairs, conventions, the Minnesota State Fair, and other events to promote University of Northwestern – St. Paul.
- Assist with miscellaneous departmental duties as assigned.
What will it take to succeed in this position?
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, required
- 1-2 years of professional work experience, preferred
- Previous college or university recruiting and transcript evaluation experience, preferred
- Continually nurture a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; serve as a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people within and outside of Northwestern; and faithfully uphold and embrace Northwestern’s mission, doctrinal statement, and Declaration of Christian Community.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, courteous and tactful manner
- Ability to work independently without close supervision
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Ability travel within assigned areas
- Ability to travel overnight 2-3 weeks per year
- Ability to prioritize tasks, completing accurately and in a timely manner
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, working some evenings and weekends
- Knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment
