What are the responsibilities and job description for the Event Captain, Campus Events (On-Call/Temporary) position at University of Notre Dame?
Job Description
The University of Notre Dame Operations, Events, and Safety ( UOES ) division is currently hiring for the position of Event Captain. The University Operations, Events, and Safety division leads the University’s event management, hospitality, and customer service functions while supporting student life, academic endeavors, and research initiatives.
Why this position?
Event Captains are responsible for a smooth execution of events taking place within the stadium, additional event locations and other campus locations on campus including, but not limited to: Club Naimoli, Compton Family Ice Arena, Joyce Center, etc. The Event Captain will touch base with the client prior to the event start time to ensure all customer expectations are met. During event set up, the Event Captain will ensure all vendors arrive at their expected time and confirm that set up has been completed, according to the agreed upon timeline. During the event the Event Captain will troubleshoot A/V and provide assistance with any repairs, if needed. The ability to problem solve, and rectify a situation quickly are essential skills needed for this position. The Event Captain will deliver the highest level of customer service for event clients, campus partners and university vendors to maintain a positive and professional working relationship. Event Captains will spend some time in the office prior to events to review upcoming assigned events, and work through any questions directly with the Event Specialist who planned the event. Event Captains are responsible for thoroughly and thoughtfully completing the post event captain’s report and the post event kitchen cleaning checklist.

- Graduate students, please contact your home academic department to obtain written approval prior to employment.
- Must be capable of managing time effectively with minimal supervision
- Must commit to working a minimum of 8-10 hours per week and 2 weekend shifts per month
- Must have timely response to email/calendar requests
- Full commitment to events assigned (no call-offs within 1 week of scheduled event)
- Class/exam/vacation time must be approved and blocked within 3 weeks
