The Senior Associate Director of the Institute for Educational Initiatives ( IEI ) is appointed by the Director of the Institute. The Senior Associate Director is a thought partner and systemic thinker who helps the IEI Director with the Institute’s vision and long-term strategy. The Senior Associate Director will supervise the Director of Communications, the IEI Associate Director, and the Director of Business Operations.

The Senior Associate Director of the Institute for Educational Initiatives ( IEI ) is appointed by the Director of the Institute. The Senior Associate Director is a thought partner and systemic thinker who helps the IEI Director with the Institute’s vision and long-term strategy. The Senior Associate Director will supervise the Director of Communications, the IEI Associate Director, and the Director of Business Operations.
- Operational Management (30%)
- A proven executive leader who can articulate key performance targets, manage diverse teams to high expectations and common goals, and ensure each business unit within the IEI has the resources to execute its responsibilities.
- Supervise the Director of Communications.
- Supervise the Director of Business Operations.
- Collaborates with the Institute’s Director of Business Operations and other appropriate faculty and staff on project planning, budgeting, resource allocation, hiring processes, implementation, financial administration, and reporting for externally funded projects.
- Works closely with the Institute’s Business Office on financial management of the Institute, the annual budget planning process, tracking and reporting of expenditures, and stewardship of Institute endowment funds, gifts, and grants.
- Supervise the IEI Associate Director(s) responsible for building operations, spiritual formation, and events.
- Provide a strong day-to-day leadership presence for all faculty and staff. Promote a culture of respect and help build a strong sense of community and fairness among Institute faculty and staff.
- Financial Stewardship and Advancement (30%)
- Develop short- and long-term development strategies.
- Collaborate with the Institute’s Academic Advancement Director ( AAD ) to promote the Institute’s funding priorities with fundraisers and benefactors.
- In partnership with the Office of Development, cultivate a donor base and implement development strategies with program alumni, Advisory Board members, and other partners in our mission; identify new potential partners.
- Meet weekly with the Director and AAD to engage in development opportunities; meet monthly with an expanded group including the ACE Executive Director, the Communications Director, and others to further the Institute’s programs and research centers.
- Strategic Advancement (40%)
- Contribute to the strategy and academic programming of the Institute in concert with the Institute’s Executive Cabinet. Work with the Director and the Institute leadership to develop and implement the short- and long-term strategies, goals, and action plans required to achieve the Institute’s vision. Provide strategic and operational leadership to support Institute faculty and staff. Serve as an ex-officio member of the IEI Faculty Committee, the internal advisory body of the Institute for Educational Initiatives.
- Work closely with Institute Directors and their units to develop and advance key results to further strategic goals and objectives.
- Provide support and guidance in promoting ongoing professional development for Institute faculty and staff.
- Work closely with Institute Directors, faculty, and staff to ensure excellence, collaboration across teams, and achievement of overall Institute goals.
- Strengthen the Institute’s integration within the broader Notre Dame community by facilitating collaboration with other constitutive units; serve as a liaison for ND Human Resources.
- Serve as an ambassador and advocate for the Institute, articulating its mission, vision, and strategic goals, promoting the Institute’s interests and culture, and communicating the Institute’s work to a diverse spectrum of stakeholders and constituencies.
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field (i.e., education, social sciences, law, business, or another relevant discipline) required; or Bachelor’s degree (5 years) or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s
- Minimum of seven or more years of relevant experience in program administration,
- PhD or other terminal degree (e.g., JSD , EdD) preferred.
- Experience in an academic setting; demonstrated transitional change management skills preferred.
- Experience in and with programs that have significant educational dimensions and scope.
- Demonstrated evidence of effective oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to think strategically, seeing and connecting big picture goals and values with mission, while also handling day-to-day details.
- Strong organizational, analytical, project management skills.
- High degree of independence and initiative; action-orientation.
- Demonstrated evidence of strong team leadership and collaboration skills.
- Experience managing budgets and financial resources.
- Deep understanding of academia and research; appreciation of the Institute’s academic knowledge-based institutional character.
- Commitment to the mission of the Institute for Educational Initiatives and the University of Notre Dame and a passion for improving educational opportunities for students, with a particular emphasis on Catholic education and Catholic values.
