The Office of the Provost (OtP) is responsible for carrying out the academic mission of the University of Oregon (UO). The office works collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance academic excellence, student success, and the UO’s overall academic profile. Led by the provost and senior vice president, the OtP is a dynamic, caring community of colleagues committed to the core values of integrity, trust, equity, collaboration, and excellence. The OtP supports and coordinates matters that pertain to faculty success, including hiring, retention, promotion, leadership development, and tenure processes. We promote the highest standards in teaching, research, and service, working closely with schools, colleges, and other critical academic units to promote institutional and personal flourishing. We are responsible for academic financial allocations and the alignment of resources with strategic academic priorities. In service to the public mission of the UO, the OtP cultivates reciprocal relationships of engagement and outreach with communities at the local, regional, and national levels and across the globe.

Within OtP, the Assistant Vice Provost for Data and Decision Support and team provide data tools to support decisions and processes related to faculty and student success.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Data and Decision Support, the Data Analyst is responsible for supporting the collection and analysis of data related to student and faculty success. The Data Analyst will collaborate with the academic affairs team to ensure prioritized areas of academic affairs are informed by relevant data. This position will work independently and on teams to support the implementation and monitoring of UO’s strategic plan around curricular data. Execute accurate, timely, and well-managed data reporting and develop tools for curricular analytics. Work with various stakeholders across the academic portfolio to implement processes and track milestones. This position is involved in and helps manage a variety of projects that require swift adaptability and time-management.

The Data Analyst develops dashboards, reporting trends and analyses that answer critical questions facing UO in the area of academic curriculum and assessment. The analyst will be responsible for a broad set of assignments and is expected to handle many sensitive and confidential issues related to data analysis for the Office of the Provost. They will prepare standard and ad hoc reports with their audience in mind, providing analysis and insights that support decision-makers. The Data Analyst may work directly with deans, vice provosts, assistant and associate vice provosts, directors, and other campus administrators on particular projects and must manage his or her time and workload and sometimes coordinate the work of others to accomplish project goals and meet deadlines for multiple projects. They will create data tools and reports that expand the use of data to improve student and faculty success efforts.

The data analyst works independently to complete projects involving data collection, data cleaning, analysis, and reporting with support from the Assistant Vice Provost for Data and Decision Support. The person must be committed to using data to support internal decision-makers and implementing an equity-minded approach to data analysis and presentation.

This position is responsible for identifying appropriate methodologies, procedures, and timelines necessary to provide data analysis assessments and recommendations to OtP leadership and unit leaders.

Minimum Requirements

  • Three years of research experience applying research methods, procedures, and techniques in the field; applying statistical and forecasting principles and procedures; planning and designing research projects; writing technical research reports and / or documents; and using statistical computer software packages; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
