Position Summary

The Leadership Annual Giving Officer (LAGO) works as part of Development to promote university fundraising priorities and image to alumni, parents, and friends of the university.

This field-oriented position requires frequent travel and direct contact with donors and donor prospects. The LAGO will be responsible for strategically planning such travel and projecting and managing related expenses.

The LAGO works collaboratively with colleagues throughout Development and across the university to identify new prospects and strategically cultivate alumni, parents, and friends.

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Leadership Annual Giving Programs, this position is responsible in supporting key priorities, which could include, but are not limited to, student success, financial aid and scholarships, academic programs, and capital projects by raising gifts from alumni, friends, and parent prospects rated $1,000 - $24,999.

Critical to the success of the LAGO will be the ability to effectively collaborate with fellow regional fundraisers, central development programs (i.e., Annual Philanthropy, Donor Relations and Advancement Communications, as well as other fundraisers in academic schools, Intercollegiate Athletics, the Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact (Knight Campus), The Ballmer Institute for Children’s Behavioral Health (Ballmer Institute), and Principal Gifts.

Travel within the assigned region as well as to other cities in other states up to 75% of the time is an essential expectation of this position.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Three years of experience in professional/office workplace environment; OR

Two years of experience in development/fundraising/external relations; OR

One year of direct experience working with and soliciting donors.

Professional Competencies

  • Working with donors and prospects: Ability to identify, cultivate, and solicit donors and prospects and build relationships with key constituents connected with the university.
  • Portfolio management and systems: Ability to develop strategies for reaching and engaging with prospect and donor audiences and regularly use the donor database of record and other tools to find and update donor information.
  • Professionalism and citizenship: Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with fundraising colleagues and support staff and maintain professionalism when working with others.
  • Institutional navigation and industry knowledge: Ability to make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects; ability to maintain core campus relationships and familiarity with industry best practices in engagement.
  • Ability to interact, communicate, and work effectively with individuals, recognizing and respecting the many and varied identities of each person.
  • Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven success balancing phone, videoconference, and face-to-face solicitations.
  • Familiarity and experience at complex organizations and/or higher education institutions.
  • University of Oregon degree or institutional affiliation.
