Department Summary
University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff is required to uphold the values of the UHS.
This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.
Position Summary
The purpose of the Medical Laboratory Technologist position is to perform the tests in urinalysis, hematology, chemistry, immunology, and bacteriology which are ordered by medical practitioners. The technologist is able to oversee the routine day-to-day operations of the laboratory. Performance of these operations will necessitate the access of the lab computer system to input and retrieve data as well as review and analyze information. This position will interpret test results and make recommendations, perform phlebotomy and collect other specimens, and instruct patients when needed. The person in this position will assist in the maintenance of lab equipment and administrative duties such as uploading and troubleshooting Lab LIS information.
The position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and / or System of Award Management (SAM). Must be in compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.
Work Schedule :
Working hours may include weekends and / or holidays. This position has a flexible work schedule.
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology;
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Microbiology plus one year of experience in a clinical laboratory performing a variety of standard testing and examination procedures under general supervision in support of professional medical laboratory personnel;
- Two years of experience equivalent to a Medical Laboratory Technician 2 in a clinical laboratory performing a variety of standard testing and examination procedures under general supervision in support of professional medical laboratory personnel.
Salary : $25 - $38
