Department Summary
The Office of Admissions includes over 50 staff engaged in recruitment and outreach to prospective undergraduates. Admissions staff make admission decisions on all applicants for freshman, transfer, and post-baccalaureate undergraduate admission. Admissions is a unit of the Division of Student Services & Enrollment Management and works closely with several other units of that division, especially Scholarships / Financial Aid and Orientation, as well as many other parts of campus.
Within Admissions, the recruitment and outreach team—including this position—is a dynamic, committed group of professionals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. They are often the first UO representatives that thousands of students from around the US and beyond meet during the process of deciding whether to apply to and ultimately attend the University of Oregon. Their care for the students extends beyond the desire to have students choose Oregon and also extends to our outreach mission, making sure that students and their families feel empowered about the college preparation, search, and choice process, regardless of where they enroll. In light of the university’s growing presence around the US and beyond, we are adding to this dedicated staff in order to accomplish even more in our work.
Position Summary
Representing the University of Oregon and the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management, regional admissions counselors serve as vital liaisons of the university in their respective regions. Regionals play a crucial role in connecting with and attracting prospective students to UO. They primarily work in the state / region they reside in, fostering relationships with local communities and educational institutions to identify and engage with prospective students and their families. Regionals work to build relationships with local high schools, community colleges, community-based organizations, youth organizations, and other local organizations that have a focus on secondary and post-secondary education. The goal is not only to recruit, but also to provide students with confidence and knowledge, while building a college-going culture that exposes them to their post-high school options.
Residing in the greater metropolitan Austin, Texas region, this regional admissions counselor position will be responsible for managing recruitment efforts in their assigned territories – including their primary market – the Austin area; other parts of Texas; and, other states that require significant travel.
Position Expectations :
- The selected individual is required to live in the Austin, Texas area.
- This position is based out of a home office and requires the selected individual to have functional home office space.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain UO Driver Certification are required.
- Work hours are 8 : 00 am - 5 : 00 pm in the regionally based employee's time zone, plus significant nights and weekends, particularly during the fall and spring.
