Position Title Cardiologist, Chair in Advanced Heart Failure / TransplantDescription The Department of Medicine and the Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute is looking for a Chair and Program Lead (academic and clinical) of Heart Failure and Transplantation with an estimated start date of July 2024.The successful applicant would join a group of 43 cardiologists at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). UOHI is a large tertiary centre providing cardiovascular care to Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is Canada’s largest and foremost heart health centre, handling more than 235,000 patients yearly from across Canada.The Division is renowned for delivery of outstanding cardiac care, excellence in education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and is recognized internationally for its research in electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, and other areas.Located at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, the facility offers state-of-the-art catheterization and electrophysiology labs, and a dedicated cardiac imaging facility. The core facilities include 96 inpatient ward beds, an intensive cardiac care unit (ICCU), and other specialized units.The Ottawa Hospital is a 1150 bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, with a high volume of inpatient admissions and outpatient visits annually.The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) is TOH’s research arm and ranks highly for competitive grants and research output.The Department of Medicine is research-intensive, receiving approximately $60 million per year in external research funding and publishing around 1200 peer-reviewed publications annually.Responsibilities The successful applicant would lead a group of 4 advanced heart failure doctors at UOHI.Clinical responsibilities include providing in-patient ward service and consultations for heart failure patients, on-call service for advanced HF / transplant and LVAD patients, and participation in outpatient clinics and possibly in the echo lab and / or cath lab.Leadership responsibilities encompass the clinical leadership of all aspects of the program, aiming for national and international recognition.Academic responsibilities include leading the research program with the goal of achieving international recognition within 5 years.Qualifications The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, with FRCPC certification in Cardiology and have completed an advanced HF / transplant fellowship; be a member of, or be eligible for, the Canadian Medical Protective Association, and have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario.Candidates must have a strong academic track record.
