Job Description Summary

This full time research specialist position will support research relating to stress, immune responses, and sleep in Drosophila melanogaster. Responsibilities include overseeing the general operation of the lab such as ordering supplies and maintaining records, preparing media and stock solutions, maintaining Drosophila stocks, conducting experiments as directed by the PI, data analysis, and assistance with manuscript preparation. Candidates must be able to effectively communicate and work with other lab members as well as independently.

In support of a lab investigating stress, immune responses, and sleep in Drosophila melanogaster, the Research Specialist will perform duties as follows: perform experiments as directed by the PI and facilitate the work of other lab members; maintain Drosophila stocks, ensuring that fly stocks are healthy and well organized; prepare media and stock solutions for general use; perform data analysis and assist with manuscript preparation; and oversee general operation of lab including ordering and receiving supplies, maintaining records, and overseeing safety guidelines.

Position is contingent on continued grant funding.

Qualifications

B.S / B.A. in biology or related fields and 0-1 year research experience in a biomedical research lab or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
