Job Description Summary
This position will support Quality Control clinical testing activities for cell and gene therapy clinical trials to treat patients with cancer and HIV supported by the Clinical Cell and Vaccine Production Facility (CVPF) at the University of Pennsylvania. This position reports to the Quality Control Team lead with primary responsibilities that include but are not limited to: performing clinical release testing via quality control assays, ex vivo culture assays and performing environmental monitoring via incubation & enumeration as needed. This position operates under GMP conditions. Candidates will be responsible for accurately gathering data, adhering to protocols, and ensuring data integrity. Additional responsibilities may include but are not limited to: method, equipment, reagent and supply validation and/or qualification. This position is an Essential University employee and is required to report to work in times of inclement weather and University closure.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct QC release test assays as assigned according to the clinical production schedule
- Ensure data collected is verified, complete and consistent. Qualification of critical raw materials. Train more junior staff in QC test assays
- Recommend SOP revision as needed to improve and streamline QC testing platform. Develop new SOPs as needed to improve clinical testing. Train more junior staff in QC test assays. Evaluate contractors, services, computer programs, reagents, supplies or other materials for suitability
- Recommend, implement and maintain improvements to optimize QC testing platform. Lead projects to design, execute, and implement validation plans in collaboration with principal investigators and researchers for the successful large scale expansion and enrollment of new clinical trials
- Draft validation plans, scientific information records as needed for improvements to QC testing platform
- Compile data and review documents as requested. Data entry and verification into databases for cell and gene therapy clinical trials
- Attend departmental meetings, report updates, provide feedback to improve current database management systems
- Keep current on required trainings
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Immunology, or relevant scientific field with min 18 months of laboratory experience (or equivalent) is required. Direct experience with cell culture, microbiology, flow cytometry, or functional assays is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Previous demonstrated experience working with clinical trials and clinical product release testing is a plus. Efficient time management, excellent organizational & record keeping skills, and ability to multi-task at a given time are essential. Flexibility to work weekends is required. Position is contingent upon funding.
