ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ANTHROPOLOGY
The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Anthropology in Pittsburgh, PA, seeks an anthropological archaeologist for a tenure-stream Assistant Professor of Anthropology position. Will teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Archaeology as well as have an active research program in Africa and interests in the African diaspora that add to the department’s newly formed regional focus of Africa, which connects with other faculty interests within the diaspora. Will seek external funding to support their research program, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and provide training opportunities for students. Will also mentor students and contribute to departmental and university administration.
Must have a PhD (or foreign equivalent degree) or PhD ABD in Anthropology at the time of application.
Must also have: (i) sub disciplinary expertise in Archaeology; (ii) an active research and excavation program in Africa as well as be committed to rigorous data-driven research in one or more themes connecting across the department and university: e.g., culture contact, African diaspora, colonial and post-colonial legacies, decolonizing archaeology, and engagement with descendant communities; (iii) methods expertise in the archaeological analysis of ancient plant remains; and (iv) experience making presentations at relevant seminars, workshops, or conferences.
Must also have been the recipient of external awards, fellowships, or grants.
Experience can be concurrent.
