What are the responsibilities and job description for the First-Year Programs Assistant Director position at University of Pittsburgh?
Manages academic program operations and assists with enrollment or other similar functions for assigned college, campus, or department. Coordinates training and development for faculty and advisers and provides academic advising to assigned students. Coordinates research within the department as well as recruitment activities.
Undergraduate Studies-Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences
The Assistant Director works closely with Director of First-Year Programs (FP) to plan, design, and implement credit-bearing courses that orient incoming students to academic life in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. The Assistant Director collaborates with academic units in the Dietrich School to build a robust offering of academic communities, coordinates with the Registrar’s Office on course scheduling and enrollment, and partners with Student Affairs, the University Library, and other University offices and services to round out course content and experiential offerings. The Assistant Director manages the undergraduate teaching assistant (UTA) recruitment and selection process and regularly teaches section(s) of FP courses. Works with the Undergraduate Studies fiscal manager to coordinate unit finances.
Essential Functions
Must be able to use a computer and keyboard and be able to use video communication technology (i.e., Zoom, Teams, etc.). Work is frequently conducted by email, telephone, in-person, and/or using video communications technology. The ability to communicate in a clear and concise fashion is essential.
Physical Effort
While on campus, this position is generally sedentary within an office setting, but the ability to travel around campus is necessary.
