The Associate Director of Accessibility provides leadership and oversight for accessibility services,
ensuring equitable access and support for students with disabilities in compliance with federal
regulations. This role focuses on enhancing the student experience by fostering an inclusive
learning environment and supporting the retention and success of students with disabilities.
Reporting to the Director of Academic Support and Accessibility, the Associate Director
collaborates closely with other university stakeholders to deliver integrated, student-centered
support. This position serves students across multiple campuses and online programs, ensuring
accessibility across curricular and co-curricular experiences.
The Associate Director directly supervises two part-time American Sign Language (ASL)
Interpreters and two Graduate Assistants conducting field work hours, providing guidance and
professional development to enhance service delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provides oversight of the university’s accessibility services, ensuring compliance with
state and federal regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section
504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act.
• Oversees the management and implementation of accommodations for all schools,
colleges, and campuses within the University of Redlands, excluding the Woodbury
campus, which has its own Director of Accessibility. Responsibilities include gathering,
reviewing, and securely storing documentation to ensure compliance.
• Evaluates and interprets disability documentation for eligibility determination, meets
with students as part of the interactive process to determine reasonable
accommodations, and coordinates services for students with disabilities.
• Develops and implements policies, procedures, and best practices to support an inclusive
and accessible learning environment for students with disabilities.
• Implements reasonable accommodations consistent with current law; identifies best
practices within the field; and maintains confidentiality of records.
• Meets individually with students to discuss current accommodations, assesses need for
reevaluation of accommodations, fosters student self-advocacy, and promotes effective
communication with instructors/staff throughout a student’s academic enrollment.
• Manages the coordination of academic and non-academic accommodations, including
alternative testing, note-taking, ASL interpreting, captioning, alternative academic
material formats and texts, assistive technology, and housing (including ESAs)/dining
modifications.
• Utilizes Navigate (EAB) to review student information and assist students with
appropriate referrals and resources.
• Supervises, trains, and supportstwo part-time American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters
and two Graduate Assistants, ensuring high-quality service delivery and professional
development.
• Meets with prospective students and family members to consult and discuss the
accommodations process.
• Advocates on behalf of students with faculty and staff to ensure proper facilitation of
accommodations.
• Partners with the Student Affairs division and other university units to enhance student
retention, engagement, and holistic support for students with disabilities.
• Maintains close communication with campus partners (including Residence Life and
Housing, Counseling Center, Harvest Table Culinary Group, and Facilities) regarding the
provision of housing and dining accommodations and campus accessibility, respectively.
• Collaborates with faculty, staff, and campus partners to provide guidance on
accommodations, universal design principles, and accessibility-related matters. Serves as
a key resource for faculty and staff on accessibility-related compliance, inclusive teaching
practices, and student support strategies.
• Plans and facilitates accessibility services education programs and workshops serving as
a resource to campus.
• Develops and maintains accessibility program materials, website, and other technology.
• Stays informed of emerging trends, legal developments, and best practices in disability
services and accessibility in higher education.
• Utilizes data-driven decision-making and assessment tools to evaluate effectiveness of
services and programs and recommends improvements.
• Provides support to new student orientation and processes.
• Represents the university’s accessibility services in campus-wide committees,
professional associations, and external partnerships. Participates in the Campus
Assessment, Response, and Education (CARE) Team.
• Performs other relevant duties as needed such as special projects, programs, and
developmental activities.
Qualification Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Student Affairs, Education, Special Education, Educational
Counseling/Psychology, or related fields. Master’s degree preferred.
• Four years progressively responsible experience working in higher education in Student
Support Services, Disability Services, or Student Life.
• Understanding of legal requirements of the American with Disability Act (ADA) and
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
• A valid California Class C CA drivers’ license with a good driving record is required. A
current DMV printout demonstrating a good driving record will be required prior to offer
of employment.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Knowledge and understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504
of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act (as it pertains to Emotional Support
Animals).
• Knowledge of applicable, federal, and state laws and regulations.
• Ability to apply legal and policy standards.
• Strong interpersonal skills, in-depth understanding of diverse groups and the ability to
interact with these groups comfortably and without bias.
• Strong interest in promoting equality and diversity.
• Understanding of the crucial role academic support services play in higher education
with respect to increasing student access, engagement, and success.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple and complex
assignments/projects and maintaining records.
• Effective supervisory, interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently with little direction.
• Excellent ability to clearly communicate ideas and recommendations.
• Computer literacy and proficiency on Microsoft Office and various data compilation
programs such as Excel.
• Commitment to students and possess well-developed motivational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with professionalism, sensitivity, and neutrality.
• Ability to use appropriate judgment when making decisions and recommendations.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Working Conditions:
Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while
sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls
to assure health and comfort. Must be willing and able to travel and to work non-traditional hours
including nights and weekends, as required.
Physical Demands:
Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; travel to various
locations to attend meetings and conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic
keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file;
speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print
and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry
and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

HIRING RANGE: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. The University of Redlands is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is defined as the Hiring Range. Placement within the Hiring Range is determined by internal equity, and relevant qualifications.
