The University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein College of Education seeks applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor in elementary teacher education with a focus on science education and school/university partnerships. This is a full-time, nine-month appointment beginning in Fall 2025. The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will enhance the College’s commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and academic excellence.

The University of Rhode Island is a research-intensive university (Carnegie R1 research classification, as of January 2025) with a commitment to high-quality teaching and community partnerships. The Feinstein College of Education is a community of educational scholars, leaders, and practitioners with a shared commitment to enhancing equity and inclusion within and outside of schools, bridging research and practice, and serving diverse and underserved populations.

The Feinstein College of Education is home to the Guiding Education in Math and Science Network (GEMS-NET), one of the longest running, federally funded science professional development projects in the country (https://web.uri.edu/gemsnet/). GEMS-NET partners with more than a third of RI school districts to provide ongoing professional development for all teachers, curricula recommendations that align with the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards, and leadership development for teachers and principals. We anticipate that the successful candidate will play an integral role in GEMS-NET to support the established and sustained research practice partnership by designing and carrying out research to help inform the project’s future innovations.
