What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fellowship Emergency Management position at University of Richmond?
SUMMARY:
The Emergency Management Fellow will assist the Director of Emergency Management in multiple departmental projects. This position’s primary focus will be on the following projects: Outreach and training events (including National Preparedness Month and EM Awareness Month), Hazard Mitigation Plan, Resource Gap Analysis, and Resource Management Plan.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning
- Assist in developing, assessing, revising, and maintaining emergency management program plans, policies and procedures.
- Works with all relevant sectors of the campus to assure that continuity is integral to business and emergency planning.
- Assists in evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of exercises and incident or event responses through the use of After-Action Reports.
Preparedness Engagement and Training and Exercise
- Presents educational training and awareness campaigns to include New Employee Orientation when the Director is unavailable.
- Assists in developing and executing the training and exercise plan.
- Assists in evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of exercises and incident or event responses through the use of After-Action Reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Comprehensive knowledge of emergency response and management, risk assessment, and mitigation.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of emergency preparedness in order to provide education, training, and awareness.
- Certification through IAEM or VEMA preferred.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- One to three years in emergency management preferred but not required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college is preferred but not required (May 2025 graduates accepted, as well as current graduate students). Advance degree or certificate in Emergency Management, a related field, or training/work experience that equates to an advanced degree is preferred but not required.
WORK HOURS:
- Part-time, limited term, non-exempt position (one year contract)
- Schedule is flexible based on average of 15 -20 hours a week, less than 1,000 hours per year (preferred scheduled 4 hours 5 days a week or 5 hours 4 days a week – this is flexible) Please included your preferred schedule in cover letter.
- Remote work available if work schedule allows
- Expected to respond to emergency situations and designated special events that impact the University (flexible and based on need and experience level)
SALARY STRUCTURE:
$20.00 per hour
