Pharmacy Support Representative

This is not your run-of-the-mill pharmacy technician position!
The Pharmacy Support Representative is also known as a Medication Access Specialist (MAS) and is part of the University of Rochester’s Specialty Pharmacy team. The MAS is responsible for managing medication coordination and removing barriers for patients to receive specialty medications. This includes communication with insurance companies, and financial assistance programs, as well as linking communication between patients, pharmacists, and clinic staff. The MAS works independently and interacts with various individuals within and outside the institution, requiring excellent phone etiquette and adherence to confidentiality policies.
The Pharmacy Support Representative/Medication Access Specialist (MAS):
- Ensures accurate document completion with meticulous attention to detail and strict adherence to compliance regulations.
- Handles inbound and outbound calls, managing documentation, resolving issues promptly, and while demonstrating an ability to problem-solve.
- Coordinates medication processes, assisting patients with financial support for specialty medications, and navigating prior authorization procedures.
- Serves as a patient advocate, facilitating enrollment in specialty pharmacy programs, and organizing medication deliveries for adherence.
- Commits to delivering exceptional patient care, maintaining high satisfaction levels, identifying, and reporting errors, and providing training to new team members.
Successful candidates:
- Must be capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Possess strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and present themselves in a professional manner.
Qualifications: Healthcare and/or Pharmacy experience is not required but is preferred
Must meet one of the following bullets:
- Associates Degree in Medical, Administrative, or related field with three or more years of relevant experience (i.e. medical office, pharmacy, office coordination etc.)
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with three or more years of relevant experience (i.e. medical office, pharmacy, office coordination etc.)
- Five years of relevant experience (i.e. medical office, pharmacy, office coordination etc.)
