Description
- Assist the Director of Veterinary Services and other clinical veterinarian with clinical & surgical support of a research program enrolling large and small animal species (macaques, marmosets, sheep, swine, rabbits, mice, rats and zebrafish).
- Assist the Director of Veterinary Services and other clinical veterinarian implement and oversee a program of daily veterinary care evaluating and addressing diseases or disorders assisted by four NYS licensed veterinary technicians.
- Manage a colony health sentinel or surveillance program for rodents and other animals.
- Providing health information to other institutions that have requested some of our resident animals overseeing quarantine procedures of newly arrived animals.
- Collaborate with researchers in design, refinement and implementation of research protocols.
- Interact directly with research faculty and staff to address program, protocol or institution-specific priorities assisted by the other veterinarians.
- IACUC Member with full participation in monthly meetings, protocol & modification review, training, post-approval monitoring animal lab visits and semiannual program reviews & facility inspections.
- Meet with new research faculty and recruits to determine how best to meet University research program needs and to build, productive, collaborative relationships.
- Instruct students and research team members in group and one-on-one teaching experiences
- Publish original, collaborative research findings and case reports in peer-reviewed journals.
- Work directly with the Animal Behavior Technologist to maintain and enhance the Institutional Enrichment & Behavioral Enhancement Plan.
- Equally rotate 24/7 emergency on-call schedule veterinary care with three other veterinarians.
- Participate in weekly DCM veterinary staff meeting and technical scheduling meeting.
- If/when ACLAM Board Eligible, given one day per week from date of hire or eligibility to study for the next ACLAM Exam offering. Given 6 weeks prior to the date of the ACLAM Examination to study.
- Position reports to the University of Rochester Director of Veterinary Services.
Qualifications
Comparative Medicine Minimum Requirements: NYS licensed, American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) Board Eligible preferred, or 5 years of laboratory, large and/or small animal private practice experience. This academic, clinical service position requires strong communication skills in a collaborative academic research environment.

The referenced pay range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
