Responsibilities
GENERAL PURPOSE
Full-time research technician position available to assist with day-to-day operation of a neuroscience laboratory dedicated to understanding the brain regions involved in memory and cognition. Duties include care of animals, data collection, behavioral training with custom and commercial software, record keeping and file maintenance, ordering supplies and overall maintenance of the laboratory.
Essential Functions
- Manages, organizes and oversees the daily operations of the laboratory. This includes maintaining the inventory, ordering supplies, interacting with vendors.
- Implements lab protocols and overseeing lab personnel safety practices and certifications.
- Trains and supervises undergraduate research assistants and other technical assistants in all relevant lab practices.
- Behavioral training and care of laboratory animals.
- Data collection, and maintenance of data records.
- Produces data tables and graphs.
- Creates audio and video stimuli for experimental paradigms and assists with computer software which run behavioral paradigms.
- Maintains the order and cleanliness of the lab.
- Arranges for repairs and service of equipment.
- Prepares surgical packs, organizes and maintains surgical room equipment and supplies. Assists in procedures as needed.
- Creating charts of anatomical data with custom and commercial software including PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, and Excel.
- Assists in histology laboratory procedures as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline preferred
- 1-year experience performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities, compiling and collecting data and preparing reports; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Prior experience working with animals preferred.
- Ability to work with animals required.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain well organized laboratory required.
- Competence with Microsoft office Word, Excel, PowerPoint required.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and scientific methods required.
