Essential Functions
- Responsible for pre- and post-award management and oversight of all sponsored funding, including monitoring of sponsored funding accounts, reviewing monthly ledgers and resolving discrepancies attributed to incorrect entries, financial reporting and account closeouts. Reviews protocols, NIH announcements, and other funding opportunities with assigned PIs or divisions and assembles/prepares proposal packages and project budgets to submit to the Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA). Meets with principal investigators for financial planning of approved budgets and assists them as needed. Advises faculty regarding compliance issues and ensures costs are allowable and allocable. Provides accurate and timely expenditure reporting. Negotiates clinical trial/clinical research budgets with industry sponsors.
- Works with faculty in initiating, formulating and organizing written proposals for research grants and contracts. Works closely with principal investigators to ensure adherence to University and sponsor deadlines and compliance requirements for participation in research. Helps identify and mitigate concerns related to project staffing, infrastructure, timelines, etc. Where applicable, develops business plans to fulfill department goals and works with divisions to implement. Identifies opportunities to collaborate within or across departments and divisions to meet business plan objectives.
- Meets with Principal Investigators (PI), research staff, and others as appropriate to review budget status and receives programmatic updates that impact projects. Reviews account ledgers and financial responsibilities with PI. Reviews and makes recommendations regarding staff allocations and spending priorities for assigned portfolio. Reviews Notices of Award for accuracy and impacts to project. Manages invoicing of sponsors, subcontracts, and administration of other financial transactions pertinent to fiscal success of project. Assumes responsibility, as assigned, for special projects involving financial planning and recommending changes.
- Coordinates human resources and payroll, including summer salary planning, effort reporting, and visa requirements. Provides support for personnel. Stays updated with University policies on hiring, pay rates, benefits, overseas and out of state hiring issues. Works with divisional leadership to integrate divisional research into department through reduction of duplicative efforts, consolidation of processes, streamlined review, and compliance with institutional policy and procedure.
- Assists with selecting and supervising administrative staff. Provides training and development and evaluates performance in day-to-day activities. Supports new hire orientation.
Minimum Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience required
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
