Responsibilities
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Assists teachers with classroom activities as needed, including daily room setup, aiding children with toileting/hand washing, meal service, and cleaning. Assists with guidance of children including goal setting, discipline, and activity leadership.
Essential Functions
- Assists with indoor and outdoor activities of children.
- Assists teachers in setting up room on a daily basis. Assembles appropriate materials.
- Aids children with toileting, hand washing and tooth brushing. Serves meals. Cleans classroom. Prepares and repairs materials and toys. Helps children rest. Rides the bus on a rotating basis.
- Assists teacher in setting goals for children. Participates in planning and with ideas for activities.
- Leads a minimum of one daily classroom activity with teacher present. Participates in admission, case conference, diagnostic and Individual Education Program meetings and staff meetings.
- Leads classroom when teacher is not present.
- Assists with guidance and discipline for children, intervening, when necessary, including removal of child to time-out room and use of common behavior management techniques.
Minimum Education & Experience
- Associate's degree and less than 1 year of experience required
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
