Responsibilities
The Preference Card Specialist is responsible for maintaining an accurate, efficient, and data driven preference card system across multiple sites, ensuring alignment of patient care needs and resources; works directly with staff, clinicians, service line coordinators, scheduling coordinators, vendors & supply chain personnel to ensure all needed instruments, specialty supplies, implants, tissues and other needed supplies are on the preference cards and correct cards are selected for scheduled procedures; responsibilities will include, but are not limited to preference card management, case need projections, trials & evaluations, and process improvement projects within area of service / department; uses performance improvement methodology to design data collection systems and processes and assist with identifying opportunities to improve care and service for patients; acts as the subject matter expert and is able to create, setup and train to the standards of preference card management to the organization; possess strong knowledge of the internal operations of surgical services, including working with supply chain, vendors, SPD and other like departments to lead on-boarding of new surgeons and maintenance of the preference card system; maintains and updates preference cards on a regularly & ensure accuracy of same at all times; reviews each case for corrections, special needs and conflict checks; creates, deletes, modifies new cards and groups as requested or needed; documents and follows up on missing case information; reviews multiple mnemonic cases for duplicate and/or excessive supplies, instruments and equipment.; makes new cards as necessary; modifies pick lists as needed especially for multi card/multi panel cases. ensures naming conventions for cards, equipment, supplies and instruments are upheld; processes preference card and mnemonics requests from service heads or managers; supports of service heads for card change requests with Supply Chain, Item Master, and SPD interface for additions/deletions/substitutions to cards; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work the schedule as defined and overtime and call as required; related duties as required
Qualifications
Associates degree in a healthcare related field OR completion of an approved clinical program from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama. Experience in an Operating Room is preferred.
