Responsibilities
Spiritual Care Extenders are Un-Paid Volunteers for the Spiritual Care Department who provide a valuable service to the patients, visitors, and staff while enjoying a unique opportunity for growth and experience in providing emotional and spiritual support to others. Extenders are similar to our volunteers who serve throughout the hospital in patient and non-patient care areas but are trained specifically through the Spiritual Care Department to provide support to those of all faiths.Qualifications
We enthusiastically welcome individuals of all backgrounds and abilities, who have specific ministry experience or education, completed at least (1) one unit from a Clinical Pastoral Education program, or currently enrolled in an educational program with a focus on spiritual and/or emotional care of others. All Spiritual Care Extenders will be required to complete the 48-hour Pastoral Care Education program through the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, or have at least one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education, and complete the training program provided by the USA Health Spiritual Care Manager. Hours will vary based on the needs of the department and availability of the Extender Volunteer. All USA Health Volunteers must successfully complete a criminal background check.
