Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, management or a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, two years of related professional experience and possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s Housing department is seeking to hire an Assistant Director, Housing Residence Life. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
- Trains, supervises, and evaluates six full-time residence life staff.
- Creates full-time staff recruitment materials (digital and print).
- Indirectly supervises approximately sixty five to seventy resident assistants and fifteen desk assistants.
- Manages staff timesheets and payroll of those supervised.
- Leads the Resident Assistant Advisory Board with Resident Assistant representatives from each community.
- Creates processes and opportunities for staff recognition including managing end of year awards and appreciation ceremony.
- Builds and continually updates and maintain written policies (manuals) for residence life, fraternity & sorority housing, and the department as needed.
- Implements, manages, and oversees all departmental assessment activities to include the annual resident student assessment with Skyfactor.
- Manages all lobby TV monitors for advertisements and announcements.
- Manages all RecRe lockers for efficient selection, utilization, and replacement of items for student item check-out.
- Reviews key audits and reports daily for mislabeled keys, missing keys, staff errors, keys out too long, and unexpected student moves.
- Ensures the effectiveness of residence hall transition processes for students, including break housing, summer conferences, summer school, opening, closing, etc.
- Leads extra-departmental engagement opportunities that housing participates in and/or supports to include Heart Walk, division-wide committees, etc.
- Serves in senior-level on-call rotation for campus emergency response.
- Utilizes the following software systems, StarRez, PortalX, Maxient, Skyfactor, Mongoose, Canvas, and Tawk.To.
- Utilizes Microsoft Office software systems and Google Suites.
- Creates and manages online RA directory including photos, contact information, and resident assignments.
- Executes a staff photo day for the creation of a cohesive group photo.
- Responsible for recruiting, overseeing training, and providing leadership for residence life staff including on-boarding processes and monthly all-staff training.
- Oversees the development of online training for residence life staff utilizing Canvas.
- Develops and implements student programs that improve student learning and students’ social, cognitive, and emotional development.
- Develops and oversees a budget for programs, events, and staff development.
- Establishes and implements professional development initiatives for the professional and paraprofessional staff.
- Provides a monthly programming report reflecting numbers in attendance for each program or event.
- Establishes and implements consistent policies and procedures for crisis management in the halls.
- Serves as a level 4 Maxient user, assigns conduct cases to Residence Life Coordinators and manages the timely completion of Residence Life cases.
- Manages follow-up and intervention process for students of concern, helping them connect to resources and social support, focusing on student retention.
- Creates, develops and sustains a student conduct system that fosters holistic student growth and development through implementing student development theory and best practices.
- Ensures an active Residence Hall Association (RHA) and/or Hall Government Association.
- Serves as essential personnel and must be able to remain on campus in the event of a hurricane or other major issue.
- Attends evening and weekend programs and events.
- Utilizes a University vehicle to transport students and staff as needed.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
- Related duties as required.
