The University of South Carolina School of Music is accepting applications for Assistant/Associate Professor of Music and Artificial Intelligence (AI), 9-month, tenure-track, to begin August 16, 2025.
Responsibilities: Maintain excellence in scholarly research and/or creative activity; develop courses in AI for the general undergraduate student population as well specialist AI courses in music; teach graduate and undergraduate courses in music theory; supervise graduate teaching assistants who teach undergraduate theory courses; supervise student research at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Other duties, including service, as assigned.
Required Education And Experience
A doctorate in music theory, composition, or related music field. ABD will be considered. Candidates must demonstrate that their research and/or creative activity interests lie at the intersection of music and AI.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching music theory and aural skills at the university level. The School of Music has identified five core values and encourages applications from candidates who have interests and abilities that align with these and can demonstrate such: 1. pursuing Excellence; 2. devotion to Student Success; 3. focusing on producing Music Leaders; 4. emphasizing the preparation of the Musician-Educator; 5. creating Diversely Skilled Musicians.
