Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
The Graduate Advisor for the School of Information Science will serve as the primary academic advisor to various tracks of students in the School of Information Science, database manager for iSchool, internship and independent study coordinator for students, and will coordinate graduation and placement activities for iSchool student services. This position will also serve as the advisor and primary point of contact for graduate students starting in the Master of Science in Data and Communication degree program.
Job Related Minimum Required Education And Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications
Must be detail orientated, self-motivated, and able to work independently and carefully manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with short deadlines in a high-volume environment. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Effective written and oral communication skills required. Must be able to work with a diverse student body, faculty and administrators. Knowledge of principles and theories of student development and higher education administration. Knowledge of techniques of individual and group counseling. Excellent communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the general public. Proficiency in computer applications, electronic mail systems, and online University systems.

Meets regularly with assigned students. Conveys pertinent information to
students in a timely manner. Provides advice and counsel regarding the
curriculum, academic policies, programs, and options.

Coordinates student applications and required materials with the Graduate
School. Maintains detailed advising records and electronic files. Stays up to
date on curricular and policy changes.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty
Coordinates online and on-campus orientation programming for Fall, Spring,
and Summer start dates. Communicates with students and university partners
to ensure events are informative.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 15 Job Duty
Coordinates graduation clearance for all assigned graduate students including
tracking submission of final portfolios and scoring rubrics.

Participates in student engagement and recruitment events.
