Advertised Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing is a key member of the communications and marketing team at the School of Medicine Columbia (SOMC). The Assistant Director, under limited supervision by the Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing, will serve as the primary contact for the management and maintenance of the SOMC’s website. In addition, the Assistant Director will: aid in identifying and strategizing storytelling and marketing content for all audiences, help to enhance brand identity through efforts such as social media, and manage the school’s e-newsletter efforts.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
Higher education communications and/or marketing experience, Website management experience, Four or more years in communications and/or marketing, or related field
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Written, verbal and organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize and successfully meet deadlines. Ability to work successfully in a team or individually. Research skills, with the ability to develop, improve or organize content. Stay abreast of developing market trends. Ability to utilize a wide variety of software and technologies to achieve the desired solution. Proven ability to write and edit for multiple channels including online, print and social media. Knowledge in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, Modern Campus CMS and Formstack. Strong attention to detail.

Leads the management, maintenance and continuous enhancement of the School of Medicine Columbia’s (SOMC) website. Develops expert knowledge of and operating the university’s content management system (CMS), Omni CMS. Works with SOMC faculty and staff to ensure the site is 100% operational and up to date with current information and compelling content and visuals. Manages website content requests. Ensures compliance with university web standards, ADA guidelines and regulations, and performs continuous maintenance.
