Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Athletics Director of Marketing and Fan Experience, the Head Cheerleading Coach will oversee the training, mentoring and coaching of all members of the All-Girl and Co-Ed cheerleading teams as well as the students that serve as the University mascot.
The Head Cheerleading Coach will work with the marketing department and other spirit staff to ensure our cheerleading program enhances the game day experience for sporting events. They will work with athletics staff to coordinate all cheerleading and mascot appearances and to ensure students represent Gamecock Athletics and the University in a positive way.
Responsible for the day-to-day administration needs for the cheerleading program including budget planning, travel logistics, social media management and practice/competition scheduling. The head coach will be responsible for building out coaching staff that could include part-time and/or volunteer coaches and support staff.
In addition to preparing the cheerleading teams for appearances and sporting events, the head coach is responsible for preparing the team for the NCA or UCA Nationals Competitions each year.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and/or Universal Dance Association (UDA) rules and competitions and experience coaching cheerleading at the DI collegiate level.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Extensive and up to date technical knowledge of the sport, including technique and proper safety protocols. Ability to communicate effectively with cheerleaders, parents, staff and members of the community.
