The Department of English, the Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) seeks candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track Instructor of Painting and Drawing in Studio Art, beginning August 2025. Special consideration will be given to candidates with an additional area of experience in darkroom and digital photography.
The Studio Art program enjoys a strong reputation in the region and is located on USCB’s Historic Beaufort campus in Beaufort, South Carolina, close to Hilton Head, Savannah, Charleston, and the coastal islands. USCB is the youngest and fastest growing comprehensive campus in the University of South Carolina system and offers a B.A. in Studio Art and a concentration in Media Arts. We seek a candidate who is committed to excellence in teaching, active in research and scholarship with knowledge of contemporary Art practices, dedicated to actively contributing to USCB’s mission through service to the Studio Art program, the Department, the University and the broader community, and committed to diversity, collaboration and inclusion.
Main Responsibilities
- Teach courses in Painting, Drawing, and up to two Foundations areas (Our foundations courses are Drawing I, 2D Design, 3D Design, and Introduction to Visual Art Computing) as well as the occasional section(s) of our ARTS B101 Studio Art for Non-Majors
- Mentor and advise Studio Art majors and minors
- Support program recruitment, retention, and continuous improvement
- Participate in program assessment and curricular development
Program, department, university, and professional service
Required Education and Experience
- Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting or a relevant discipline
- Strong commitment to and demonstrated record of highly effective teaching
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Knowledge of diverse painting materials, techniques, and practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability and willingness to teach Photography
- Successful experience teaching Painting at the college level
Strong, professional art practice with knowledge of contemporary art theory and disciplines
