Patrol Lieutenant (Campus Lieutenant) Minimum Salary: $65,539 per year, (Salary commensurate with education & experience; potential for sign-on bonus as well) USCA University Police
The Law Enforcement Officer Ill/Patrol Lieutenant directs and manages units/ teams within the Department’s Patrol Division. He or she is responsible for coordinating law enforcement operations and ensuring continuity and consistency among the various units / teams, conducting administrative inquiries, and handling complaints. Officers in this assignment may be rotated among operations functions as the needs of the Division require. In addition to operations supervision, this position fulfills various administrative management duties. This officer would work closely with counterparts to seek synergistic approaches to crime control and safety. As this officer manages units working 24/7/365, work hours will frequently fall outside the normal work week. As needed, executes duties of a patrol officer, provides VIP detail security, and assists with critical incidents. Work shifts may vary from week to week. Must work overtime and weekends as required.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. Must be 21 years of age. Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials: Must be physically qualified and have no criminal record. Must pass a background investigation and complete the SC Criminal Justice Academy and be certified by the SC Law Enforcement Training Council before assuming police duties. Must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle. This position is considered a safety and/or security sensitive position – as such, you will be subject to random, post incident/accident, reasonable suspicion and rehabilitation monitoring drug and alcohol testing consistent with USC HR Policy 1.95, Drug and Alcohol Testing.

Knowledge of the Constitutionally mandated rights of both suspects and law enforcement personnel. Knowledge of South Carolina law, relevant case law, and policies of the University. Ability to exercise sound judgement within an established set of core departmental values. Knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of other law enforcement agencies. Skill in the operation of law enforcement vehicles, weapons, and communications equipment. Must be physically qualified and have no criminal record.
