Swing Shift Area Maintenance is the first responder for after hour emergencies (maintenance and custodial). This position works independently and required to make decisions which affect our student’s living conditions and safety. This position provides multi-trade skilled maintenance and repair services during emergency situations and with scheduled planned work. Basic knowledge and skills in carpentry, locksmith, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing for commercial residential properties. This position is required to maintain residence halls on the Columbia campus of the University of South Carolina. This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies. Work hours are Monday thru Friday 2:00pm to 10:30 pm.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires job related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications
8 years maintenance experience or equal combination of formal trade school and experience. Minimum of one year supervisory experience.

Skilled in the use of various trade tools. Skilled with investigation, troubleshooting and making general repairs and adjustments to equipment used in building and maintenance work. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to perform manual labor. Ability to communicate effectively. Performs and plans routine work on building components and equipment that evolves carpentry, locksmith, electrical, HVAC and plumbing within residence halls. Maintains communication with supervisor and with the rest of Operations through properly, accurately and timely completing work orders.
