Advertised Job Summary
To help carry out the educational activities and other projects of the USC School of Medicine-Columbia Ultrasound Institute (USI). The emphasis is on point of care ultrasound (POCUS) training.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Certified in Ultrasonography
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in providing ultrasound education. Research experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Extensive knowledge of ultrasound and maintenance of sonography certification. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong problem-solving skills. Excellent computer and software skills to include but not limited to Microsoft Office products. Ability to use learning management systems (ex. Blackboard) and software for virtual meetings/remote learning (ex. Zoom). Ability to become familiar with new learning software applications that might be used by the USI. Ability to foster a positive working/learning environment, work effectively/harmoniously as part of the USI team, and consistently maintain a professional attitude. Conduct business lawfully and ethically by adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations. Ability to exercise judgment and willingness to reach out for assistance when needed. Ability to employ a variety of teaching methods and develop instructional materials. Ability to help develop and participate in conducting various ultrasound education assessments. Ability to be comfortable with instructing a wide range of learners. Skilled in ultrasound scanning using a range of ultrasound systems (ex. hand-held devices, laptop units, console systems). Skilled in performing a range of ultrasound scans and willingness to learn new applications as needed to help with point of care ultrasound education.

Assist with conducting all Ultrasound Institute (USI) educational activities such as tours, orientations, organized labs, open labs, student interest group sessions, OSCEs, CME workshops, summer camps, rural health ultrasound trainings, and other events. This includes working with students, residents, fellows, practicing physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

Assist with coordination of all USI-related activities. This includes scheduling the sessions, requesting standardized patients when needed, notifying participating instructors, setting up the USI lab/simulator rooms, recording attendance if applicable, and collecting evaluations. Will provide hands-on assistance with all activities requiring ultrasound expertise.

Assist with carrying out tasks needed for USI operations such as purchasing supplies/equipment, managing the ultrasound device/simulator inventory, helping keep the USI website up-to-date, using problem solving skills to try to remedy issues in-house quickly when they arise (ex. computer and ultrasound equipment issues/updates), and reaching out to appropriate contacts (ex. IT or facilities) when problems cannot be resolved in-house. This duty involves interfacing as needed with various departments/programs/offices at the School of Medicine, other USC schools, external academic/clinical entities, and ultrasound companies.
