The USF Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) with Graphicstudio (GS) and the Public Art Program compose the Institute for Research in Art. CAM organizes, presents, commissions and travels exhibitions, commissions public art projects, and manages a collection with a focus on contemporary works on paper. CAM researches and strives to identify and work with artists that can stimulate and shape cultural debate in our community and beyond, and actively engages audiences in educational programs including lectures, symposia, workshops, and community-based projects
DUTIES
The Preparator / Assistant Registrar will work closely with the Exhibition Designer, Chief Preparator, and the Curator of the Collection on the installation of temporary and other exhibitions organized for the USF Contemporary Art Museum and the maintenance of the USF Art Collection. The primary duties of this position involve assisting with preparing the galleries for exhibitions and artworks for installation and storage, hanging and installing artwork, transportation of artwork, and may include artwork movement tracking, condition monitoring, database entry, and correspondence. Some experience with art handling and/or construction preferred, but USFCAM will provide training as needed.
PHYISICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Preparator / Assistant Registrar must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull a variety of tools, equipment, and materials. Must be able to climb, balance, reach overhead, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to equipment. Handles a variety of power tools. Will occasionally be exposed to noise and vibration from operating machinery. Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs. May be required to work in confined areas to access equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with all art installations in the museum and off campus locations
- Assist with the framing of artwork
- Package artwork for safe transit and assist with transport
- Assist with the maintenance and cleaning of the museum workshop and exhibition galleries
- Assist with evaluating vault storage and implementing measures to properly store artwork
- Assist with gallery buildout for temporary exhibitions
- Assist with the creation of artwork labels and gallery signage
- May assist with entries in the Collection Management database system
- May assist with exhibition or collections correspondence
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in an Art Related Field. Art Handling and/or construction experience.
