The University of Southern California (USC) Leonard Davis School of Gerontology is seeking an MIS Manager to join our staff and student community. This role is responsible for supervising staff and operations of a computing services department that provides support and service for university and / or department-wide systems and users. The position requires specialized technical expertise and is responsible for staff supervision, budget development and administration, short- and long-term planning, and quality assurance. The MIS Manager ensures the efficient delivery of one or more IT functions and capabilities.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Supervising staff, including recruitment, training, scheduling, performance management, and, when necessary, termination.
  • Developing and implementing departmental goals and objectives while adapting priorities to achieve performance benchmarks.
  • Managing the departmental budget and providing input for future budget planning.
  • Overseeing daily operations and providing technical expertise to address complex IT projects and problem resolution.
  • Collaborating with users to identify project needs, develop solutions, and ensure adherence to project timelines and objectives.
  • Evaluating vendor proposals for hardware, software, and technical services, and managing purchases, shipments, and verifications.
  • Developing and documenting internal policies and procedures, as well as interpreting and communicating these guidelines to users.
  • Acting as a liaison between the department and other university offices to ensure effective service coordination.
  • Designing and conducting specialized training sessions for end users, tailored to groups or individuals.
  • Staying informed of industry advancements through professional associations and providing recommendations to senior management on technology changes and strategic needs.

Candidate qualifications :

  • Proven experience managing hardware and software for both Apple OS and Windows OS servers and computers.
  • Expertise in maintaining server reliability, including hardware and software management, security, and backups to ensure an efficient IT environment.
  • Proficiency in network administration and workstation setup, including Apple OS and Windows OS laptops and computers.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), with a preference for Brightspace.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess IT-related data and provide actionable feedback to supervisors.
  • Demonstrated ability to repair and maintain computer hardware, as well as train and supervise others effectively.
  • Knowledge of and experience working in higher education is preferred.
  • Reporting Structure :

    The MIS Manager will report directly to the Senior Associate Dean, Maria Henke, and will work collaboratively with the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology.

    This position offers the opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting the university's technology needs while working within a dynamic academic environment.

    Preferred Qualifications :

    The ideal candidate will possess at minimum a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related area, and at least 5 years of experience managing hardware and software (Apple OS and Windows OS serves and computers). Experience working in the higher education field is ideal.

    This is an exempt position with work expected in the Andrus Gerontology Center from 8 : 30 AM to 5 : 00 PM during normal hours of operation and after hours and on weekends as needed. Some travel for training and conferences to maintain skills and knowledge is required.

    The annual base salary range for this position is $100,000-$120,000.
