This is an essential position with the expectation that incumbents report to work on snow/storm days and other days when campus is closed.
Responsibilities
- Clean and disinfect a variety of areas on campus including restrooms, breakrooms, common areas and classrooms.
- Assist with event set-ups and take-downs.
- Assist with trash collection and disposal.
- Responsible for clearing snow at building entrances/maintaining clear entrances.
- Unlock and secure buildings.
- Report maintenance issues and equipment failures as appropriate.
- Provide recommendations for corrective action on areas that need improvement.
- Respond to customer concerns with efficiency and respect.
- Work effectively and cooperatively with members of the Facilities Management team, students, faculty & staff, external vendors and customers and the broader USM community.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to custodial team members.
- Other duties as reasonably assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), or international degree equivalent.
- At least one year of custodial or janitorial experience.
- Effective communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently, follow verbal and written instructions, and safety procedures.
- Capable of lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 50 pounds frequently and/or exert 20 pounds of force to move objects; and must be capable of standing for long periods of time and flexible enough for bending and reaching.
