Work Schedule & Location: Full time (40 hours per week). We have positions available on both the USM Portland and Gorham campuses with various schedules including day, evening, and overnight shifts. Specific location and schedule needs will be discussed during the interview process.
Pay and Benefits: Pay is $21.99 per hour ( $0.80 per hour shift differential for shifts the majority of which fall between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.). This is an essential position with the expectation that incumbents report to work on snow/storm days and other days when campus is closed.
Responsibilities
- Executing custodial duties and responsibilities, to include basic cleaning, operating cleaning equipment, using cleaning chemicals, removing trash, moving furniture, reporting maintenance concerns, etc.
- Enforcing safety and procedural standards
- Placing orders for supplies and collecting necessary materials and equipment
- Coordinating project steps and the activities within the project of the assigned crew
- Inspecting work to ensure assignments are completed according to specifications and standards
- Explaining processes, procedures, and standards to employees
- Providing work direction to crew
- High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), or international degree equivalency, and sufficient experience including four (4) years of custodial- or grounds-related work experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license and pass a driving history check to operate University vehicles.
- Proven ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Proven experience getting along with co-workers, supervisors and building occupants.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
- Effective communication skills.
- With or without reasonable accommodation, must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or exert more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects, be capable of standing for extended periods of time, and flexible enough for bending and reaching.
- Previous experience operating custodial cleaning equipment.
- Previous experience leading a crew or coordinating small projects such as moves and event set ups.
