Position Details
Wellness Services at The University of Tampa has an opening for an Assistant Director of Health Promotion. This position is responsible for wellness education and programming, with a direct focus on planning, implementing, and evaluating theory and evidence-based alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and other drug prevention strategies, policies, programs, and services. Additionally, the Assistant Director will plan, implement, and evaluate social well-being programs to support a sense of belonging on campus. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Wellness. As a member of the Office of Student Affairs, this position will uphold the values of collaboration, community and citizenship, diversity, equity and inclusion, professional practice, and student-centered learning. The work of this position will intentionally align with strategic priorities to advance the mission and vision of student affairs which results in student learning and support for students to grow as global citizens.
This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to report to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to severe weather or other conditions.
Responsibilities
1. Serve as a campus community expert in substance misuse prevention.
2. Plan, implement, and evaluate theory and evidence-based alcohol, tobacco, cannabis and other drug prevention strategies, policies, programs, and services.
3. Plan, implement and evaluate social well-being programs to support a sense of belonging on campus.
4. Oversee the Spartan Connect program for non-residential first-year students.
5. Develop strategic plans, goals, logic models, measurable objectives and learning outcomes for alcohol, tobacco, cannabis and other drug programs and services.
6. Coordinates and writes the Drug-Free School’s and Community Act Biennial Review.
7. Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach for prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) issues,
8. Hire, train, manage, supervise, and evaluate paid and/or volunteer student staff, interns,
and/or peer educators that work with ATOD issues.
9. Supervise the Wellness Coordinator.
10. Advise/mentor student wellness organizations affiliated with the Wellness Center, including, but not limited to: Rx Factor, prescription drug abuse prevention and education; Watch Your BAC, alcohol harm-reduction program; Breathe Easy UT, tobacco prevention, cessation and education, and DisJointed, cannabis education program.
11. Support counseling services staff member with The University of Tampa Recovery Community (UTRC) to assist students in recovery and those in treatment to remain clean and sober and complete their education at The University of Tampa.
12. Chair CEDARS, the campus alcohol, other drug and tobacco community coalition, and actively participate in community coalitions, such as the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance (HCADA) Tampa Alcohol Coalition (TAC), Marijuana Task Force and the Tobacco Free Partnership of Hillsborough County.
13. Develop, implement, and analyze periodic student surveys that 1) provide baseline and follow-up ATOD and other health behavior data, 2) identify program needs and priorities, 3) evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services, and 4) track trends in student health status and behavior.
14. Develop and coordinate on-going group education and support programs for students.
15. Coordinate the mandatory on-line, population level prevention program (Vector Solutions) for all incoming students, in conjunction with the Wellness Center staff assistant.
16. Develops referral networks and makes appropriate referrals.
17. Participates in and provides outreach and ATOD and other health promotion activities, workshops, trainings and/or events.
18. Works closely with Residence Life Staff in the development and delivery of alcohol, cannabis and other drug education programs in the Residential Curriculum.
19. Represents Wellness Services with a professional demeanor and composure at outreach
events and other meetings occurring both on and off-campus.
20. Exhibits exceptional customer service, professionalism, and teamwork in all aspects of work.
21. Supports vision and mission of Wellness Services.
22. Participate in research and professional writing, publications, and/or presentations.
23. Actively participate in professional organizations, eventually in a leadership capacity.
24. Seeks out and writes grants when appropriate and partners with community members to seek grant funding.
25. Assist with currently funded and new ATOD grant deliverables.
26. Assists with other duties as assigned.
27. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree required. Most relevant degree areas include health promotion, public health, health policy, or health education, counseling or psychology. Degrees in other fields may be considered with evidence of sufficient university-level coursework and/or professional continuing education in the areas listed above.
- A minimum of two years of ATOD work experience, preferably in both prevention and a higher education environment.
- Evidence of ability to provide leadership and problem-solving skills in analyzing the wellness needs of emerging adults, especially college students.
- Experience conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programmatic decisions and budget allocations.
- Experience conducting literature reviews, program evaluations, interpreting findings and assessment data, and developing plans to programmatically and strategically respond to the findings.
- History of verified active membership in relevant professional associations (e.g. ACHA, NASPA, etc.) preferred.
- Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
- Certification as a Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH), or eligible or intent to become certified is preferred.
