Position Details

The Department of English and Writing within the College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Composition to begin in August 2025.

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, or a related field and have experience teaching in an undergraduate writing program. Experience in Writing Program Administration is preferred, as the candidate will be expected to step into a leadership role following tenure. Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and show interest in developing innovative curricula for both our Academic Writing (AWR) and general education (Spartan Studies) programs.

Candidates must show promise of scholarly achievement. We welcome those with active research agendas in areas including but not limited to : writing program administration, composition pedagogy, writing center theory and practice, assessment, multilingual writing, or online pedagogy. The teaching load for this position is 6 courses per year, primarily in academic writing with additional courses in our English and Writing core. The candidate will also have opportunities to develop and teach courses in our new Spartan Studies general-education curriculum.

A Ph.D. will be required by the time of appointment.
