JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Term Research Technician 2 participates in an ongoing research project focusing on the role of proteolytic pathways (autophagy and proteasome) in the heart, in the Physiology department at the UT Health Science Center.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years. (Prior experience in biochemical assays and mouse genotyping preferred.)

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Term Research Technician 2 participates in an ongoing research project focusing on the role of proteolytic pathways (autophagy and proteasome) in the heart, in the Physiology department at the UT Health Science Center.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs basic research techniques such as RNA samples and run qPCR and other techniques and protocols as requested.
- Performs a wide range of cell culture and animal experiments.
- Undergoes training to perform cell culture techniques to maintain cardiac cells, kidney cells and reptilian cells.
- Performs biochemical assays such as proteasomal and chaperone-mediated autophagy activity, and cytotoxicity assays.
- Handles and maintains mouse colonies, performs echocardiography, and harvests heart tissues.
- Differentiation of human induced-pluripotent cells to cardiomyocytes.
- Maintains lab equipment in proper working order and maintains clean work areas.
- Creates and maintains electronic databases; keeps comprehensive lab records/experimental data.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge in the area of cardiovascular diseases, drug administration and tissue collection and
- Skill in performing biochemical and molecular assays is preferable.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team are preferred.
- Some exposure to gene expression analyses and bioinformatics is useful, although not an absolute requirement.
