Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Collections 3rd Party assists in in the direction of Collection and Third-Party Billing, which includes developing and managing key performance metrics, ensuring compliance with various federal, building and maintaining reports/metrics and coordination with external agencies/corporations. Works under general direction with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directs collection efforts related to university receivable system (student accounts receivables, housing, institutional loans).
  • Reviewing past due accounts to determine appropriate action, consulting with members of the University community regarding the status of past due accounts, and assuming responsibility for effective follow up on past due accounts.
  • Promotes a professional image of the University in its debt collection effort by maintaining a good rapport between the University and the students, alumni, and friends and performing all related collection functions in an efficient manner.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of collection files by following University procedures for the recording and filing of both written and personal communications with debtors regarding their delinquent accounts.
  • Responsible for keeping updated on federal, state, and local collection laws, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), UDAP, FCRA and Texas-specific regulations.
  • Ensure all collection activities are compliant with applicable laws and organizational policies.
  • Responsible for analyzing external agencies performance, work effort, strategies and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Handle the implementation and administration of Texas State Comptroller holds in compliance with state regulations
  • Directs Third-Party / Sponsored Students which includes reviewing and processing acceptable Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) for students whose tuition is going to be paid by an outside entity (sponsor); setting up and maintaining contracts in accordance with MOU; processing billing statements (invoices) to third party sponsors and posting related payments to student accounts; and reconciling sponsor accounts.
  • Participates in on campus outreach programs.
  • Deliver presentations regarding programs offered by Student Financials to students and various student organizations throughout campus.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with Communication Specialist in all outreach programs and the management of social media.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of experience in business, finance, accounting, information systems or a related field, or seven (7) years of experience in any of the above listed areas.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with five (5) years of related work in student accounts/financials and/or higher education environment.
  • At least three (3) years of upper management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with state and federal laws governing collections and billing.
  • Proven experience in creating and analyzing performance metrics.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability and skill to understand the accounting procedures and requirements pertaining to the University’s accounts receivable system and how they are integrated with the other University systems.
  • Expert knowledge of collection laws and regulations
  • Proficiency in report-building tools such as excel, SQL, or business intelligence platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and update dashboards for operational performance tracking.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
