Job Summary
The Natural Resources Specialist I- Austin, TX will processes public water system (PWS) information for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Reviews requests for PWS data changes and that come through investigation reports, field reports, and other sources. Provides technical assistance to external and internal customers about registrations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reviews requests for PWS inventory affiliation data changes; determines data accuracy.
  • Documents decisions by preparing notes, reports, summaries, and correspondence to record
  • Provides technical assistance to city and county officials; water system owners, operators,
  • Works with the team to create/review/revise documents such as reports, correspondence, and standard operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with one (1) year of experience in data analysis, environmental quality management, public utilities, business administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills; experience with databases and reviewing technical documents.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Word and Excel; and PC’s. Solid working knowledge of database entry; ability to learn TCEQ rules and data systems.
  • Skill in time management, organization, and attention to details.
  • Ability to work independently once trained, exercise independent judgement and initiative under general supervision, integrate complex concepts, procedures, and processes, communicate effectively with customers and coworkers; gather information and/or explain policies and procedures; prepare correspondence, reports, documents, policy, procedures, case narratives, or prepare other lengthy documents

Other Requirements

Working Conditions
Standard office environment. Job activities include but not limited to sitting, standing, lifting and carrying batches of paper up to 10 lbs. Infrequent travel (i.e., annually) for activities such as job skills training or participating in institutional and client meetings and conferences.
