Purpose

This position supports the campus Captioning and Transcription Service (CTS), a centrally funded service group housed in the University of Texas Libraries. CTS provides video captioning and transcription services to the entire university and prioritizes accessibility requests for educational materials from deaf and hard of hearing UT communities.

Responsibilities

  • Fielding incoming captioning and transcription requests. Track and update status of requests. Communicate with requesting campus partners.
  • Check transcripts and captions for accuracy and quality. Provide feedback to vendors and student staff. Refer pertinent information to the Manager.
  • Interact with external customers and on-campus departments, communicating clearly and effectively to understand client goals and expectations. Read and respond to correspondence.
  • Develop, schedule, and plan work assignments based on competing deadlines.
  • Coordinate work with team members. Help supervise a small student team in a fast-paced operational setting.
  • Handle general administrative tasks.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 1 year of relevant experience, or high school graduation (or GED) and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software and digital workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on clear communication with diverse communities.
  • Ability to make complex decisions independently.
  • Ability to think strategically and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with tight deadlines.
  • Experience using a ticketing system such as Jira.
  • Experience with closed captions or transcription process or working with digital video and related production workflows.
  • Interest and experience with web development or digital user experience.

Salary Range

$41,000 depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions.
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
  • Typical library conditions.

Work Shift

Monday - Friday, between the hours of 7am and 6pm, as arranged with manager. Flexible work arrangements with remote days available.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
