Dell Medical School is seeking a Deputy Chief Financial Officer.

Purpose

The Deputy Chief Financial Officer (DCFO) is a key leadership role responsible for supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in managing all Dell Medical School (DMS) financial operations. This role provides leadership and coordination of the implementation and maintenance of DMS-wide financial accounting and reporting initiatives, strategic planning, financial analysis, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The DCFO works closely with the CFO, senior management, and department leadership to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the organization's goals.

Responsibilities

Financial Strategy and Planning

  • Develops and implements innovative financial strategies, policies, and procedures, anticipating market changes and aligning financial goals with organizational strategy.

  • Leads the development of short- and long-term financial plans and forecasts.

  • Provides strategic recommendations to the CFO and executive management team.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Manages the budgeting process, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

  • Oversees the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.

  • Monitors budget performance and recommends corrective actions.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Oversees the preparation of financial statements, reports, and analysis.

  • Ensures the accuracy and timely delivery of financial data.

  • Analyzes financial data and performance and provides insights for decision-making; makes informed financial decisions and ensures financial integrity.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensures compliance with internal controls and financial regulations.

  • Coordinates financial audits and implements audit recommendations.

  • Develops and oversees risk management strategies.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Leads and develops finance team members.

  • Provides direction, motivation, and mentorship to finance staff.

  • Fosters a collaborative and high-performing team environment, leading by example.

Marginal or Periodic Functions:

  • Manages special financial projects with organization-wide impact.

  • Represents the organization in financial discussions with external stakeholders.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency while supporting department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; Serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.

  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

  • Performs related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field. Ten (10) years of relevant experience in healthcare finance and strategic planning.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. Finance leadership roles academic healthcare organizations with both facility and ambulatory locations. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification. Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP), of Fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA).

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
